Walkscape
performance installation, 2003
A thick layer of fragments of white plaster fully covers the gallery space, crumbling under the visitors’ feet. I perform the action of pouring water with black ink in the middle of the space, drawing a straight line. The space resonates with the steps of the visitors and with the crumbling of the plaster under their feet, creating a meditative experience and an immediate sense of presence, timed by the sound of the steps. This work highlights the practice of being present in space and of walking in space, in this case walking around a room, as a moment for existential reflection and mind wandering.
